Andris (Andrew) Markovs was best known throughout WA consumer and carer networks for his work in:

  • Founder and then manager for the Albany Men’s Resource Centre
  • Foundation member of DSN (Depression Support Network)
  • Founding chairman of Albany Men’s Shed
  • Founding member of SEA | Southern Edge Arts youth theatre company
  • Albany Community School founding member
  • Advice to many community groups and mental health organisations

His empathy and recognition skills were deeply informed by his own lived experience, while his informal, personal approach helped overcome embarrassment and build rapid participant engagement. Coming from careers in the professional performing arts and hospitality sectors, Andrew thrived on connecting with people face-to-face.
